Seems odd to think about planning a party when you’re relaxing at a Bluegreen resort. After all, you’re on vacation, with access to great facilities, and you’re there to have fun without doing extra work.
But if you’re planning a casual get-together and want it to be intimate and informal; hosting a football viewing bash, a child’s birthday party or any other kind of contained revelry, you can do it easily and inexpensively in your Bluegreen villa.
First off, keep the decorating to a minimum, so you won’t have to worry about removing anything or damaging the property. You’re already in a beautiful and festive place and that may be all you need!
Snacks Sandwiches ‘n Salads
The most important concern is probably chow. Since your resort is not too far from a food market, you can buy frozen snacks and be done with it. But you can do better — much better — with little effort. It’s easy to plan your menu around ready-to-eat items: cold cuts, cut fruit, sliced veggies, salads, chips, dips and other snack items. Add some bread, rolls, bagels, croissants and spreads — butter, peanut butter, jelly, preserves, cream cheese, hummus — and you’re off! Sandwiches are simple to assemble. Buy long French bread, stuff with store-bought cold cuts, tuna, chicken or shrimp salad and cut into serving size pieces. Easy!
Many markets also sell cooked food; pizza, fried chicken, ribs, wings, lasagna, meatloaf and more. All can be heated in your villa’s kitchen and embellished with salads and side dishes.
Buy some tortillas and salsa to make tacos and burritos. Or easily shred a rotisserie chicken to use for filling. Serve with cheese, jalapeños, canned refried beans, guac and chips, and you’ve got a speedy Mexican fiesta.
Kids party? Pigs in a blanket are super-easy to make. So are individual pizzas made with English muffins or pita bread which kids can build themselves! (And these are also great for grownup gatherings, too.) And old reliables like mac and cheese are easy to make and can be jazzed up with veggies, ground beef or turkey, or sausage. Sit-down Family and Couples’ Dinners
Your villa has most of the comforts of home, so it’s not difficult to enjoy slightly more formal family or couples’ dinners. Obviously, you can take out complete meals from nearby restaurants or purchase heat-and-eat dinners from local markets. But if you want to, you can whip up a variety of soups, salads, casseroles, roasts, vegetarian dishes, sides, desserts and more, with a just few ingredients.
Thrill of the Grill
If you have access to a gas or charcoal grill, you can quickly make an endless array of dishes — everything from burgers, hot dogs, ribs, steaks, chicken, fish, vegetables — whatever you like. But if you can’t grill, most of these items can be made using the villa’s oven broiler.
Sure, that’s always an option. And for dishes you can’t or don’t want to cook, there’s nothing wrong with dining out at the great local restaurants near your resort. But for a fun, intimate and cost-effective party or dinner, why not get cookin’?
