Tucked away and shielded from the hustle and bustle of Orlando is Winter Park, a beautifully landscaped and store-fronted suburb of the city that has tons to offer. If you’re searching for some good vino to go with your vacation, look no further than The Wine Room on Park Avenue. This little haven for Floridian wine lovers offers wine tastings, cheese pairings and comfortable seating for you to enjoy the atmosphere. If you’ve planned a vacation to Orlando, take some time to check out the subtly trendy and sophisticated area of Winter Park Florida. Minutes from downtown Orlando and the Bluegreen Vacations resorts—The Fountains and Orlando’s Sunshine Resort—it has much to offer, especially for the wine enthusiast.
The Wine Room on Park Avenue was voted the best wine bar in Orlando in 2009 by readers of The Orlando Sentinel, the city’s largest paper. Wine enthusiasts flock to this room to get a chance at trying something new, something unique and something you can’t get anywhere else. The Wine Room has these nifty little wine tasting machines called Enomatics. Enomatics were created in Italy, land of the knowledgeable wine lovers, in efforts to allow the enthusiast to try different bottles and vintages without committing to its entirety. Rather than hoping your 2005 Barolo is to your liking, you can have a taste of it first, thanks to these ingenious machines.
An Enomatic machine holds the bottle much as a display case does, but contains a system that allows for a tube to be inserted into the bottle that dispenses the wine by the ounce. With each ounce that leaves the bottle, nitrogen fills the space to preserve the remaining contents. The computers allow the dispensing amounts to vary, so the taster can sample varying amounts. Start with an ounce, if you like it, move to a full, five-ounce glass. The Wine Room on Park Avenue is proud to offer 156 bottles from around the world. While we hope you don’t attempt to sample them all in one visit, we do hope you have fun with pairing and distinguishing between the Petite Sirahs and Zinfandels.
The Wine Room on Park Avenue also offers classes and tastings. If you’re in the mood to socialize, grab a partner and head over for a class. Or just relax and enjoy tasting on your own. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and will help to ensure you enjoy yourself. The bar also serves appetizers, so nibble on some cheeses while you figure out which wine pleases your pallet most.
The concept of experimenting with the different bodies and bouquets of varying vines and vintages creates a unique atmosphere. The people in the shop are there to experience new aromas and flavors. They are excited to see what comes out of the bottle, and willing to step out of their comfort zones and away from the Chardonnay. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and can help you decide where to start with your wine tasting.
Whether you are staying at The Fountains or Orlando’s Sunshine Resort, the trip to Winter Park and The Wine Room are worth the drive. If you’ve planned on seeing something new during your Orlando vacation, this is your perfect opportunity to get out there and experiment! We assure you, it will make for a great experience. Cheers!
