In 2003, Disney’s Pixar Animation Studios released the lovely tale of a cute little fish named Nemo. “Finding Nemo” begins with a father-son combo living in the Great Barrier Reef before Nemo ventures too far into the open water and gets netted by fishermen and sent to a dentist’s aquarium in Sydney. Marlin, Nemo’s valiant father, sets out to retrieve his son and embarks on a journey as entertaining as Nemo’s efforts to find freedom. While the Pixar movie is not a musical, the Disney stage adaptation is—and it’s a great show to see on your next vacation to Orlando.
Finding Nemo – The Musical
The Disney attraction Finding Nemo – The Musical transforms the 90-minute film into a mesmerizing, 45-minute musical, full of singing and dancing puppets, acrobats and actors. Giant sharks, stingrays and sea turtles, brought to life by enthusiastic puppeteers, cruise the stage through the elaborate backdrops. Tony-award winner Robert Lopez and his wife, Kristen Anderson-Lopez, composed the music for the show. Songs such as “Just Keep Swimming” and “Go with the Flow,” inspired by quotes from the film, include upbeat and easy-to-follow lyrics.
The show is performed several times daily at the Theatre in the Wild in the DinoLand U.S.A. area of Disney’s Animal Kingdom. We recommend arriving 30 minutes early, as the lines to this popular performance are long. But don’t worry, there is room for everyone attending and the show is well worth the wait.
If you’ve planned an Orlando vacation, and have kids with you, this Disney attraction is the perfect show for you and your family. Even if you haven’t watched the Pixar film, the show will still impress and entertain you. But we recommend watching the movie first—perhaps as a strategy for exciting your kids about their upcoming vacation.
