About Cape Cod Potato Chips
The recipe for Cape Cod Potato Chips was developed by Steve and Lynn Bernard in their kitchen at home. They wanted to share the chips they created and adored with others, so in July 1980, they began to sell the chips in a small store in Hyannis. Everyone loved the natural, kettle cooked chips, and the rest as they say is history. It is now one of the most well known brands in the world and loved by people of all ages.
They pride themselves on using east coast potatoes, shipped in daily from the farms. The potatoes are separated into batches and inspected before they are even washed and peeled. After that they are sliced, then cooked in pure canola oil and hand stirred in kettles, as they have been for 30 years. They are tested for quality, texture, flavor, and taste and laid out to rest to allow the oils to drain before being sent through seasoning tunnels. They are even sampled yet again to make sure they are ready to get measured and sealed up in their bags.
The Bernards decided they wanted to share the cooking process and history behind Cape Cod Potato Chips with the public, so they began offering factory tours in 1985. To this day, thousands of people come to find out more about their chips and see what happens before the chips are stocked on the shelves of the local stores. You can see all the pride the company puts into their products on weekdays during free self-guided tours. It is a chance to read about their history and check out all the action in the plant.
