A Guide to the Cape Cod Baseball League

On your Bluegreen Cape Cod vacation, you don’t have to head all the way to Boston’s Fenway Park to see an action packed baseball game. Founded in 1885, the Cape Cod Baseball League (CCBL) still allows you and your family to attend a game played by one of the ten teams in the organization. With games going on throughout the Cape, it’s a perfect way for the sports lovers in your family to see high caliber baseball, right near the Bluegreen Dennis Port resorts.

Cape Cod Baseball League is one of the best college summer leagues in the country. There is a game going on any night of the week, all summer long. The teams include the Bourne Braves, Harwich Mariners, Brewster Whitecaps, Hyannis Harbor Hawks, Chatham Anglers, and Orleans Firebirds. The Cotuit Kettleers, Wareham Gatemen, Falmouth Commodires, and the Y-D Red Sox are a part of the CCBL as well.

The games are a place for locals and visitors to enjoy competitive baseball but they are also where scouts can go to find their next big name. Many of MLB’s baseball stars have played right here in Cape Cod, in the league. Jacoby Ellsbury, Tim Lincecum, Lance Berkman, Nomar Garciaparra, and Mark Texiera all are current Major League players who played in the Cape Cod Baseball League in the past.

On your next Bluegreen trip to the Cape, take a ten minutes drive to see the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox team in action. They play at “Red” Wilson Field at D-Y Regional High School in South Yarmouth. Also located the same distance from the Bluegreen Dennis Port properties is the Whitehouse Field, where the Harwich Mariners play.

What a perfect way to spend a summer afternoon or night, seeing the teams play quality baseball and catching a ballgame with your family and friends. And best of all, you don’t need to worry about pricy tickets at professional games, since CCBL games are free and you don’t need tickets ahead of time. Since the ten teams are all non-profit organizations, they would love it if you could provide a donation, but most of all, come by and be ready to cheer on their teams. And most of all, remember to have fun at the game – it is your Bluegreen vacation!
