When you think of Arizona, you probably think of beautiful desert landscapes, dramatic canyons and buttes, and stands of saguaro cacti…but vineyards? Yup, it’s true–Arizona’s climate has proven to be ideal for wine growers, with vineyards that produce wines to rival California and even European vintages. Each year at harvest time, these unique wineries are celebrated at the Sedona Winefest, the epicenter of Arizona viniculture in northwest Arizona’s Verde Valley.
Situated at the southern end of Oak Creek Canyon, Sedona hosts over 4 million visitors each year who are drawn by its magnificent natural red rock formations, as well as over 40 art galleries displaying every type of art imaginable. There’s a spirituality and energy about the place that inspires creativity and attracts artists and art lovers here from around the world. This unique synergy also makes it the perfect spot to hold an annual event showcasing Arizona’s growing wine industry.
Last year’s event attracted over 3,000 and highlighted 19 Arizona wineries. This year promises to be even more engaging, with wine industry experts offering short instructional seminars on everything from the art of wine-making and the importance of vineyard location and climate, to improving your wine appreciation skills.
In addition to sampling and purchasing some great Arizona wines, guests can also treat their palates to a sampling of amazing cuisine prepared by chefs from a range of area restaurants, all while taking in Sedona’s beautiful vistas and enjoying live music provided by local musicians. There will also be a variety wine-related crafts for purchase at vendor booths at the event.
This year’s Annual Sedona Winefest takes place on the weekend of September 26-27, 2015, from 11am-5pm each day at the Posse Grounds Park in the heart of Sedona. Admission tickets can be purchased online, and each admission includes eight tasting tickets and an etched commemorative wine glass. It’s a great way to expand your knowledge of wines, find a new favorite vineyard, and enjoy Sedona’s unique desert beauty under brilliant blue skies.
