Avast ye mateys! ‘Tis time to get seaworthy and ready yerselves for the Annual St. Augustine Pirate Gathering, set to take place November 6-8, 2015, at Francis Field. Lads, lasses, scallywags and landlubbers are all welcome to come about and celebrate the Golden age of Piracy in the nation’s oldest continuously inhabited city.
This weekend festival encourages visitors to unleash their inner pirate by dressing the part and mingling with buccaneers from the Black Heart, Ancient City Privateers and other ships known for sailing the high seas. Listen in as seafarers recount stories that will shiver your timbers. Feast on tasty grub while sipping grog (food and drink if you prefer), then head over to the Thieves Market to purchase a bounty of treasure.
Don’t be surprised if there’s a mutiny or two during the day—this is, after all, a pirate festival. But all the scuffling is done in the spirit of fun so you won’t have to worry about walking the plank. Other activities include weapons demonstrations and daring stunts performed by bands of pirates. If you’re so inclined, you can sing a shanty or take pictures with a mermaid. The wee little ones can keep themselves busy at the children’s play area or be dazzled by pirate magic.
On Friday night, visitors will be all ears during the Buccaneer Bash at Fort Menedez. This live event features an entertaining concert played by pirate-themed bands.
