A Sweet 4th of July in Hershey

A Sweet 4th of July in Hershey

Ever since the Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence and the United States broke away from Britain on July 4, 1776, Americans have been celebrating the Fourth of July with barbeques, parades, festivals and picnics. Nearly every city in the states has a celebration of some sort, whether it be a small Main St. parade or full-blown fireworks spectacle. And Hershey is a sweet spot to celebrate our Nation’s independence.

Hershey Gardens

Each year, the Star Spangled Picnic is held along thousands of blooming, beautiful flowers. The Star Spangled Picinic includes private access to the Gardens, family entertainment (shows, crafts, etc.) and a catered picnic. An impressive fireworks event takes place at the end of the evening. Tickets to this event are limited, as the park is closed to the public after 5 on the 4th, so inquire about availability in advance to ensure a spot or make an alternative plan.

Bluegreen Guide to a Sweet 4th of July The Hershey Story Museum

From July 1 -4, The Hershey Story will host 4th of July Chocolate Lab Classes, by far the sweetest way to celebrate. The Yankee Doodle Chocolate Bars Chocolate Lab Classes will be held several times throughout the days it runs. Kids will learn to mold a milk chocolate bar, top it off with white chocolate and splashes of red, white and blue, star-shaped candy sprinkles! Students of the art of chocolate molding and decorating will also learn about cocoa beans—where they are grown and how they become delectable treats in the Planet Chocolate Lab Class. If the kiddies have sweet teeth, this is the place to get them in the spirit. The museum also hosts other family-fun-filled events, such as S’mores Galore Chocolate Lab Classes.

Hershey Symphony Orchestra

Bluegreen Guide to a Sweet 4th of July The well-respected and beautifully entertaining Hershey Symphony Orchestra will host a Fourth of July Celebration at 7 p.m. on the front lawn of the Hershey Medical Center. This annual event is free to the public and offers a spot to see some great fireworks put on by the city. Pack up the kids, bring your lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy the patriotic tunes put on by the Orchestra as you watch the colors burst through the air.

Whatever it is you chose to do during your vacation to Hershey over the Fourth, you will have a good time, thanks to the fun city and great weather.
