Alpine coasters have long been popular in Europe and are quickly becoming top picks for coaster enthusiasts looking for new thrills in the United States.
If you find yourself vacationing in Branson, take a ride on the wild side onboard The Runaway.
The Runaway Mountain Coaster
The Runaway Mountain Coaster located at Branson Mountain Adventure Park is pure downhill excitement—and it made its first run on August 12, 2016. Resembling a bobsled, this gravity-driven thrill ride travels along smooth tubular tracks. It was constructed to blend in with the natural beauty of the Ozark Mountains, as unobtrusively as possible with minimal impact on the land.
The Runaway is a rider-controlled experience that can be enjoyed alone or with another rider. With coaster cars designed to accommodate guests of all ages, this ride is perfect for families who love adventure. Go full speed ahead by pushing the brake levers forward, or pull back to slow things down. No matter how extreme you choose to go, your ride will be smooth, comfortable and secure. You’ll zig, zag, zip, dip, turn, twist and weave through trees dotting the hillside while experiencing 400 feet of elevation change as you descend down the mountain on this eco-friendly outdoor attraction.
Safety features include automatic speed resistors that limit top speeds to 30 mph, brake lights and alarms. There’s also a patent-pending collision avoidance system and comfy seatbelts to hold riders in their seats during G-force turns.
Rear collisions can cause serious injury so always look for slow moving cars ahead of you and use caution. If the alarm sounds, you are too close. Pull the hand brakes back and keep a safe distance behind. You must stay at least 80 feet behind the car in front of you at all times. When the track is wet, a distance of 180 feet between cars must be observed. Seatbelts must be worn at all times during your ride. If it should become detached, you will hear a beep. Reconnect your seatbelt in order to continue down the hill.
- Driver must be at least 9 years old and 52 inches tall.
- Driver must be able to operate both brake levers on the car.
- Rider must be at least 3 years old and 36 inches tall.
- To ride double, driver must be 16 years of age or older.
