Indoor Summer Fun When the Heat is On in Orlando

Escape Room Bluegreen

Yes, it’s the unofficial vacation capital of the universe, but summer heat and humidity in Orlando can be pretty intense. Good thing there’s plenty of fun stuff to do to lower body temperatures and still raise excitement levels. Swimming and other water activities will cool you off and chillin’ in your air-conditioned villa is another sure way to beat the heat.

Though many Orlando activities and attractions are outdoor events, there are also tons of things going on indoors. Here are a few suggestions for family fun and diversion inside — and under air.

Since Orlando is, in many ways, a typical American city, you can always go to the movies, munch popcorn, sip drinks and see the latest thrillers, superhero epics or independent films.

Get Smart

The Orlando Science Center features exhibits, events and more. Their entertaining approach to serious and important subjects makes it a great stop on your tour of the area — rain or shine. The Orlando Museum of Art in Loch Haven Cultural Park, right next to the Orlando Science Center, showcases contemporary American art as well as traveling exhibits, African art and more.

Go Bowling

It’s the perfect American indoor activity. Keep score (or not) and let out-of-shape oldsters compete on approximately the same level as fit and hearty younger people. Bowling is a great way to hang out, have some laughs and keep cool.

Play a combination of bumper cars, basketball, Jai-alai and hockey under a 25,000-square-foot dome. Other activities include bowling, laser tag and arcade favorites.

It’s the latest craze: find clues, solve puzzles and discover the key to the escape door in a game based (sort of) on historical events. Up to five members per team work together to unravel the mystery.

You can stay relatively cool and browse the stores in the Florida Mall. See what comes together at Ikea or view local craft artists’ works for sale at CityArts Factory.

See optical illusions, rare and odd items, artifacts and other strange stuff and historical exhibits at Ripley’s Believe It Or Not Museum.
