On your next Miami vacation with Bluegreen resorts, head into Joe’s Stone Crab for some of Florida’s best seafood. What began in 1913 as a small lunch spot on Miami Beach has since expanded to become something much more special. Back in the day, locals came for quality fish sandwiches from Joe Weiss. Though the food was great in the past, it wasn’t until 1921 that they discovered just how delicious the local stone crabs were.
They learned stone crab season in Florida runs from October 15th to May 15 and that the best way to eat and serve the stone crabs is by boiling them, then serving them cracked in three spots. In the past, they served them up with hash brown potatoes and coleslaw, along with dipping sauces, and they do so today as well. Whether you prefer mayonnaise, lemon or lime juice, melted butter or Joe’s original recipe mustard sauce for dunking, the stone crabs will not disappoint.
The stone crabs are ordered in medium, large, and jumbo portions at Joe’s, depending on if you want 5, 7, or 8 claws and all come chilled with mustard sauce. Beyond just the stone crabs though, the restaurant has a long list of options, in shareable portions. Don’t fill up too much on the bread basket because there are satisfying appetizers such as calamari and crab cakes to start off your meal.
Standout dishes on the menu that are a hit with diners include the lobster macaroni and cheese, lobster roll, snapper, and sweet potato fries. Meat lovers can indulge on filet mignon, rack of lamb, or any of the hearty entrees. You will also find that Joe’s Stone Crab serves plenty of regional favorites as well like conch fritters. For dessert, guests can’t resist the beloved Key Lime pie.
On your visit, you will love dining at this local spot, which has been a favorite for 99 years. They are a family owned and operated establishment and welcome friends and family from near and far to enjoy all the menu has to offer. Dining in, take out, or even shipping options are available within the U.S. Keep in mind they do not accept reservations, but it is well worth the wait. Joe’s is right on Washington Avenue, about 8 miles or 15 minutes from the Bluegreen resort, Solara Surfside.
