The Carolina Opry is one of the very best places to enjoy live music. For decades, this Myrtle Beach landmark has been treating guests to energetic concerts filled with music, dance and comedy. The two-hour show is an award-winning performance that takes place in a high-tech theater featuring incredible stage lights, superb sound and astonishing special effects. Closer to the stage is better, but almost every seat gives you a great view.
CNBC has named The Carolina Opry “Top Attraction in Myrtle Beach,” so expect to be entertained. So who’s performing and what can you expect to see? Quite simply, you’ll see a little of everyone and everything. The show features All That, stars from NBC’s “America’s Got Talent,” recording artist Brad Long from Nashville and a cast of 35 talented performers selected from all corners of our great nation.
This is a family-friendly show, so if you’re in Myrtle Beach you should definitely check it out. But you don’t have to take my word for it. The Carolina Opry and its performances have received major kudos from The New York Times, USA Today, NBC Nightly News and CNN.
In the Beginning
Flash back to 1986. It was at this time when live music shows in Myrtle Beach began to gain popularity. And everything traces back to one man—Calvin Gilmore. He had an idea to turn the Grand Strand into a place that would attract visitors interested in exceptional entertainment. When Calvin Gilmore opened his first theater the notion of a variety show was nothing more than a novel idea. Years later, the Carolina Opry has presented more than 8,000 shows. This impressive run is even more impressive when you consider it’s been going on longer than any show on Broadway.
The Good Vibrations Show
The ‘60s, ‘70s, and ‘80s are alive and well inside the Calvin Gilmore Theater. The Award-winning cast of The Carolina Opry takes you on musical journey back to the decades when entertainers like the Righteous Brothers, The Beatles, James Brown, Tina Turner, The Beach Boys, KISS and Cyndi Lauper were the biggest names in music. The sights and sounds may be from bygone eras, but the music being played remains just as popular as ever. You’ll definitely remember when at this concert.
Christmas on Myrtle Beach
´Tis the season for some jolly fun and musical celebrations in November and December as the theater becomes a wonderfully wintry place to be. Get in the spirit and experience The Carolina Opry Christmas Special. More than 5 miles of colorful lights, Christmas trees, wreaths and snow will all be part of the festivities.
They say copying is the most sincere form of flattery—and Calvin Gilmore certainly must be flattered. That’s because many others have followed his lead and opened theaters of their own. Every theater features its own crop of talented performers and shows to be proud of. But there’s still only one original, The Carolina Opry.
Thanks to Gilmore’s vision, the Grand Strand and Myrtle Beach continue to be billed as stars in this great entertainment destination.
