On your next Florida vacation, take a trip to one of St. Augustine’s best waterfront restaurants, Cap’s on the Water. Featuring lunch on weekends and dinner served daily, locals and visitors come to this family friendly spot time and time again for the tasty fresh seafood and unbeatable views. Though the restaurant does have plenty of seating indoors, you won’t want to miss dining al fresco.
Cap’s on the Water will offer you more than beautiful views.
Cap’s on the Water offers diners plenty of waterfront tables. The restaurant features a large deck, filled with trees and greenery, for you to feast and sip specialty cocktails upon. There is garden seating and seats at their Oyster Bars to take advantage of, and for private parties, a luxury yacht outside the restaurant as well.
When the weather doesn’t cooperate, the decks even have heat lamps and covers, making sure you can always sit outside. And if you enjoy the outdoors, there’s a few activities to keep you busy while you wait. Kids love the old cedar tree, complete with a tire swing. And adults love to check out the boats and water views, while enjoying the extensive award-winning wine list, featuring more than 400 options.
The restaurant serves up dishes that not only take advantage of all the ingredients in the coastal area, but the chefs prepare the cuisine with a Southern and Mediterranean flair as well. Make sure to try the local catch of the day, purchased directly from Mayport, with options like Mahi or Triggerfish. Or try something from outside the area, like tuna from Costa Rica or salmon from Chile. The menu specifies the location where the fish was caught, so guests know exactly what they are eating and from where it came.
Highlights on the menu include the peel-and-eat shrimp, crab legs, and oysters, which are straight out of Apalachicola Bay, to start. There are also a variety of sliders to begin the meal on the right note and what’s a trip to Florida without a taste of fried gator tail, which they serve with a citrus sauce. Then go for one of the salad, sandwich or taco options, or try one of their delicious entrees like the fish and chips or the Pan Seared Scallops. Seared to perfection, the scallops are served with roasted Vidalia onion puree in a fennel broth, topped with fried leeks.
For a real seafood experience, you might also like to try the Whole Fried Pompano, or feast on something tasty like the Vanilla Grouper, featuring a horseradish crust and a sweet vanilla rum sauce. If you are not in the mood for fish, no worries, since there are a variety of chicken, meat or vegetarian choices as well. And for dessert, options like the Coconut Cake or Spicy Chocolate Cup fill the menu, as well as the area favorite, Key Lime Cup.
Cap’s on the Water is located right between Ponte Vedra and St. Augustine, which is less than 20 minutes from Grande Villas at World Golf Village®. After just a quick drive down scenic highway A1A, you will find and come to love this St. Augustine restaurant. Keep in mind they do not take reservations and get a bit busy at sunset, so make yourself comfortable by the bar with a cocktail and some oysters while you wait.
