The true test of any restaurant or attraction popular among tourists is whether it’s equally appealing to locals. Boondocks Restaurant just south of Daytona Beach, Florida, passes that test easily. It’s a hotspot for Florida seafood in the Wilbur-By-the-Sea area, the place everyone seems to go for reasonably priced regional cuisine. But what this Riverfront restaurant, overlooking the Halifax River, also provides guests is a magnificent sunset view from the spacious outdoor deck right in Adventure Yacht Harbor.
Kick back in your shorts and a t-shirt and get comfy outdoors at one of the restaurant’s picnic tables, right in the marina and its catfish-filled waters. You won’t find fine china at this Harbor restaurant, but what you can expect is great food, and a full bar menu, all with friendly service. Start off your meal with steamed or half shell oysters by the ½ dozen or dozen or take advantage of the Florida fresh seafood with some Key West Conch Chowder.
The menu also features classic appetizers like Buffalo wings, mozzarella sticks and jalapeno poppers. Then go all-out with entrees like the Deluxe Captain’s Platter, for $22.95, featuring grilled fish, spicy steamed shrimp, clams, oysters, and snow crab legs, or indulge in the Shrimp & Scallops, served with Boondocks sauce over linguine.
Not a seafood fan? Not a problem here. Try the Caesar salad, BBQ pork sandwich, or one of their juicy burgers, such as the Au Poivre burger, for only $7.50, featuring a spicy, brandy-cream peppercorn sauce. For a heartier meal, the grilled Boondocks Chicken is smothered with provolone cheese, with onions, mushrooms, and bacon or try the 12 ounce Char-grilled New York Strip Steak, served with or without mushrooms and onions. Leave room for dessert, since slices of Key Lime Pie or Cheesecake will satisfy your sweet tooth.
Everyone is welcome at this hidden gem, whether you live locally or are visiting with family and friends, The restaurant is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week, for some fun in the Florida sun during your vacation to Daytona Beach.
