On your next vacation stay at either The Breakers Resort or The Soundings Seaside Resort in Dennis Port, Massachusetts, you’ll find some of the best beaches on Cape Cod close by. Check out four spots you won’t want to miss on your vacation:
The Best Beaches in Cape Cod
The Dennis area
The Dennis area offers many notable beaches, including two on freshwater lakes. West Dennis Beach, 10 minutes west of Dennis Port along Nantucket Sound, is one of the best. Public parking extends right to the beach wall. Residents and visitors each have their own designated area. This narrow, yet long beach, allows you to grab food at the snack bar, find a spot, and enjoy a day of sunning, relaxing, and swimming. It is family friendly and features lifeguards on duty, restrooms, and even a playground. It’s especially well known for kiteboarding and windsurfing.
Coast Guard Beach
Located in Eastham, Coast Guard Beach is where the Pilgrims aboard the Mayflower first sighted land on November 9, 1620 before they continued on to stop in the Provincetown area. This beach is known as one of the best on Cape Cod because not only is the beach surface smooth, area wildlife including seals provide memorable entertainment. The water is a bit chilly but refreshing in the hot summer sun. Lifeguards are on duty, so you can relax while your kids play and swim. Showers, changing areas and restrooms are available, and this beach is less crowded then others in the area. Parking is extremely limited onsite, but additional parking is nearby and accessible by an area shuttle. Coast Guard Beach is about a 15-mile drive from the resorts in Dennis Port.
Located in Barnstable, Sandy Neck is one of the area’s largest beaches, stretching 6 miles. It is a place to sit in your chair, wind down and admire the sand dunes from afar, or check out interesting that are part of the beach composition. If you’re granted a permit, you can cruise this beach in four-wheel drive vehicles. Showers and restrooms are available and places to grab a bite are nearby. Lifeguards are on duty.
To reach this beach, take Route 6 in East Sandwich to Sandy Neck Road, which leads to West Barnstable and public beach parking. Sandy Neck is 20 miles drive from the West Dennis resorts. On your visit, you might have an interest in the nearby Sandy Neck Park as well, where horseback riding trails and hiking paths are available into the dunes. If you’re up to it, you can even hike several miles to the edge of private property belonging to the owners of Sandy Neck Lighhouse on Barnstable Harbor for a closer look at the cherished, once-public beacon tower.
Falmouth offers up 10 public beaches on 12 miles of the shore, including Old Silver. Cape residents and visitors alike descend on this beautiful and popular gem. What is so great about this beach is the warm, clear water and soft, white sand. The warm waters of Buzzards Bay and the Vineyard Sound are around 70 degrees in the summer and the temperature continues to stay comfortable even until autumn. You will feel like you have been magically transported from New England to the Caribbean at this picturesque beach. Conveniences like showers, changing areas and concession stands enhance the beach, about 30 miles from the resorts.
