Bluegreen’s Top 10 Things to Do in The Smoky Mountains

The Smoky Mountains are overflowing with big bears, deer and many other striking animals.  Finding these animals is half the fun of visiting Bluegreen Resorts in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. The spectacular scenery captivates the senses while staying in Smoky Mountains.  If the season is right, skiing is the main attraction, but there is never a wrong time to come see the other sites.  Here are some of Bluegreen Resort’s Top Ten Smoky Mountains Favorites:

1. Dollywood
What entices both young and old to this charming theme park every year?  It’s the rides, the shows and the fun. But most of all, it’s the mountain spirit that is captured in the backdrop of the park.  Be sure to make time for the show Sha-kon-o-hey or Land of Blue Smoke, which is Dolly Parton’s newest musical.

2. Space Needle
This is a perfect 360-degree view of the Smoky Mountains.  Take a glass elevator up the length of the needle and up standing 400 feet above ground.  Imagine watching a sunset from those heights!

3. Smoky Mountains National Park
This is America’s most visited park for good reason.  Start the journey at Cades Cove, a valley well known to be the spot for wildlife spotting.  Mount LeConte is the best place for a hiking excursion with five unique trails.  The waterfalls of the Smoky Mountains are also a must see natural wonder.

4. Snow Skiing
The ski slopes at Ober Gatlinburg are for everyone, from beginner to advanced.  The eight slopes are covered with a combination of natural and man-made snow.

5. Whitewater Rafting
Splash all the way through the Smoky Mountains.  One of the most adventurous things to do in the outdoors during Bluegreen vacations, rafting will have you beaming for hours afterward.

6. Old Mill
A little taste of old Southern cuisine and hospitality is served up at the Old Mill restaurant daily.  The fritters with maple butter for starters are a must have.  After you eat, check out the store for recipes and even ingredients so you can try your hand at creating one of these delicious meals at home!

7. Lazer Port
Test your skills against your family and friends.  Laser Tag is such a fun time, but you have to watch your back!  The Go Carts are also an entertaining attraction at Lazerport.  The tracks take you up more than 50 feet and bring you down with twists, turns and surprises.

8. Guinness World Records
Know who the tallest man on Earth is? How about the shortest?  Discover all the fascinating titles given to people around the world for their astonishing feats.

9. Ripley’s Aquarium
Ripley’s knows how to put on a show and that is very true also for this aquarium.  The most popular attraction is an overhead tank with sharks. Some  10,000 exotic sea creatures swim, crawl and splash here.

10.  Log Cabin Pancake House
Make a repeat visit to this pancake house and try a different flavor combination every morning of your Bluegreen vacation!  The restaurant doesn’t only serve up pancakes; they are also famous for their waffles and omelets.

We absolutely loved our stay in Gatlinberg and plan to return soon. I would love to go in the fall and see the colors. There is so many wonderful things to do, its hard to make up your mind. If you like the outdoors, this is for you! Kudos to Bluegreen and all their staff at Gatlinberg!
