The gigantic, floor piano is still there, in case you were wondering. And it’s open to the public, children and adults, throughout the year. FAO Schwartz has been around since 1862, and on Fifth Avenue in New York City since 1986. In the almost 150 years the company has been in business, it has amassed an unequaled collection of toys and other children’s accessories. It is not only a destination for New Yorkers, but Americans and international tourists as well. Daily, you will find throngs of people lined up to see the store’s collections of toys, gifts and collectibles. Needless to say, there is something for everyone in this world-famous toy store.

There is more Legos and Star Wars merchandise than kids could ever play with, and a huge Barbie section invites children to explore the wonderful world of pink houses and convertibles. A beautiful book section, with a large Dr. Seuss display, will keep them reading, and board games will keep them playing for hours.

Even the elevator is cool – the friendly looking robot who is named GO-2-FLOOR-2.

FAO Schwartz even hosts events throughout the days, such as big keyboard performances, art demonstrations and craft shows. It is truly an eventful place to visit during your Bluegreen vacation, and full of fun things to bring or ship home.

If you want to venture through the crowds on a weekend, the earlier the better. Remember, you are not the only one who loves awesome toys, entertaining events and New York City monuments. Also, during the holiday season, the store is super crowded, so be prepared for long lines if you are looking for presents. Also, just so you know, FAO offers complimentary gift wrapping services for your purchases, as well as personal shopping assistance. And if you do find something during your Bluegreen vacation that you would like to send to someone back home, FAO will have them delivered if you don’t want to carry them back.
