Vacations mean many things to many different people. The way people relax can vary from massages and pedicures to detox diets and exercise. Which is why we have done some research to find the best bike trails near our resorts. From Arizona to Wisconsin, we have found bike trails ranging from family-friendly to expert level. All mountain bike trails are close to our resorts, and should provide some entertainment and a means of relaxation, if this is your thing.
The Sierra Estrellas are dark, jagged mountains – all granite with sprigs of green dotting the landscape. While the backdrop may look daunting, the ride is truly beautiful. The trail is a single track with short, steep climbs and short, intense downhills.
This is a trail for intermediate riders. A single track takes you through scrub pine forest to cypress swamp lowlands. There are lots of trails to choose from, none of which are too technical. Great for wildlife viewing.
While the map states accessibility to all skill levels, some technical awareness is necessary. These trails are for skiing in the winter, so they can get pretty fast as downhill bike trails. Also cool: these trails are within riding distance from your vacation villa at Mountain Run at Boyne.
There are many trails to chose from, with something for everyone. While there are less people on the west side of the park, the trails are more technical. Fast downhills and a creek crossing make for a fun time.
The park's bike trail follows the old railroad bed of the Philadelphia and Reading Railroad (yes, they are real). There are plenty of stacked loops and log obstacles to keep you focused.
This trail is a moderate ride for beginners, but beautiful and entertaining for all. The main road is asphalt, but you are able to turn off the road and hit the dirt trails for a bit more adventure.
Roadbikes only for this one. Take your journey along Skyline Drive for over 100 miles. While it is not mountain biking, you will still have strong climbs and incredible views around you.
The trails are exciting, with plenty of switchbacks and fast downhills. Routes get a bit narrow at times, but there are no hard climbs – only technical work. Try practicing on the Marl Ravine trail. There are plenty of ups and downs, roots and switchbacks.
Bicycles are allowed on the Uplands Loop and a connector trail, which provides 8 miles of scenery. The route is for mid-level riders, and goes from winding, grassy trails through open fields to deep brush and wooded one-ways. The most scenic views are from the top of the East Bluff trail on the south end.
Thanks to its Lowcountry location, the trails are fast and flat with an assortment of bridges and raised boardwalk trails. The Swamp Fox trail is inside the Francis Marion National Forest. Trails can get sloppy after rains. Wear bug spray.
Whether you are a cycling champion or novice to the sport, these trails should get your heart racing and your endorphins pumping during your vacation. And in case you didn't know, endorphin pumping is the goal of the game, thanks to their uncanny ability to lift your spirits. Feel free to use this list as a reference of mountain bike trails for your various Bluegreen vacations.
