Tennessee Titans Football
But, alas, there was a time when pro football did not exist in Nashville. A National Football League team did not appear in the state of Tennessee until 1997. The Houston Oilers relocated to Memphis for one year before moving to its permanent home in Nashville in 1998. The team was renamed the Titans in 1999.

If you ask any Tennessean who’s followed the Titans over the years, no doubt their football memory scans back to the year 2000. The day of January 8, 2000 lives on in the minds and hearts of Titans fans everywhere. This was the day that Titans could truly call Nashville home. The AFC Wildcard game against the perpetually unlucky Buffalo Bills was the occasion. The closely contested playoff game featured one of the most remarkable plays in NFL history. With only 16 seconds remaining in the game, the Bills' kicker made a 41-yard field goal attempt to put Buffalo in the lead, 16-15. Titans fans wondered if their luck had run out. Was this the end of an amazing season?

Moments later, the Bills kicked off and the Titans’ Lorenzo Neal received. Neal handed the ball off to Titans tight end Frank Wychek. Wycheck threw a lateral across the field to Kevin Dyson, and then Dyson sprinted 75 yards down the sidelines for the winning touchdown.

Here’s the transcript of announcers Mike Keith and Pat Ryan on the Tennessee Titans Radio Network:
Keith: "Do the Titans have a miracle left in them in what has been a magical season to this point? If they do, they need it now. Christie kicks it high and short. Gonna be fielded by Lorenzo Neal at the 25; he dishes it back to Wycheck; he throws it across the field to Dyson..."

Ryan: "He's got somethin'..."

Keith: "30, 40..."

Ryan: "He's got somethin'..."

Keith: "50, 40.."

Ryan: "He's got it! He's got it!"

Keith (voice volume increasing): "30, 20.."

Ryan: "He's got it!"

Keith: "10, 5, end zone...touchdown, Titans! There are no flags on the field! It's a miracle! Tennessee has pulled a miracle! A miracle for the Titans!"
The Titans emerged victorious with a 22-16 victory over the Bills. The team continued its magical run with defeats over the Indianapolis Colts and the Jacksonville Jaguars that year. The Titans fell just short in the end, losing to the St. Louis Rams in Super Bowl XXXIV. To this day, people still look back at that Wildcard game with fond memories as the day the team came home for good.

Will you see another “Music City Miracle?” Don’t miss the chance. Go get tickets. The Tennessee Titans football season begins September 12th . The team takes on the Oakland Raiders at LP Field.
