Situated right on one of the last drive-on beaches in the country is Bluegreen's retro-chic Daytona SeaBreeze.
Originally built in the early 1970s, the unique oceanfront resort was purchased by Bluegreen and renovated in 2005. The resort décor is one of the most original in the Bluegreen portfolio, featuring 1950s and 1960s retro furnishings with unique abstract artwork. All 78 one- and two-bedroom suites are ocean-view rooms and close enough to the water that you can sleep to the sound of the waves crashing on the beach. A classic experience!
And of course it's the beach that is the main attraction. You can have the same classic beach experience in Daytona today that you had decades ago. Driving on the beach is still permitted daily, seaward of the marked dune conservation zone depending on tides and accessibility of the ramps leading onto the beach. Vehicles are welcome on the beach May 1 through Oct. 31 from 8 a.m.-7 p.m., and Nov. 1 through April 30 from sunrise to sunset.
The seaside beach activities don't stop when the sun goes down. There are "dive-in" movies once a week, and a fire ring for marshmallow roasting right off the beach. If you are looking for reasons to visit Daytona in the off-season, there are plenty. Fall in Daytona is big for bikers.
Biketoberfest is a huge biker event that takes place in downtown Daytona in mid-October (this year Oct. 15-18). For this event, Main St. is closed to cars—but open to motorcycles, of course. The downtown area is filled with bands and beer tents, and lots and lots of bikers and "hogs." This is a very popular event, so plan your trip early for availability at the resort.
If you are into classic cars and hot rods, plan a stay at Daytona SeaBreeze for the
Daytona Turkey Run. This event, which
Hot Rod Magazine recently named No. 38 on their "list of things to do before you die," is held on Thanksgiving weekend every year. This year marks its 36th year, and will be held Nov. 26-29. It takes place at
Daytona International Speedway and features cars on display and various races.
