Cowabunga, Dude! Best Surf Spots

This summer, take a Bluegreen surfing vacation and catch the waves on the East Coast, from New Jersey to Florida! Wax up your boards, throw them in the truck, pack up the family with towels and snacks and head to the ocean to experience nature in all of its power and glory, get some sun and have a great time with friends and family. Surf’s up at these great resort destinations: Atlantic City, Daytona Beach, and Charleston.

The Best Surf Spots on the East Coast:

Ocean City, New Jersey

30 minutes from Bluegreen at Atlantic Palace

For years, Atlantic City has laid claim to being one of the most popular vacation destinations in the world. With a population of almost 40,000 people, this New Jersey resort town, known for great casino gambling, is also lucky to be close to one of the best surfing spots just 30 minutes away. Avid surfers come to Ocean City, New Jersey, for the superior waves and a history of great surfing on the Atlantic coast. In fact, the high school in Ocean City won eight consecutive surf championships, so you know something is definitely in the air and more importantly, in the waves. As a result of its jetties, the town’s hollow rights peel on a north or southeast swell. Ocean City remains one of the most consistent surf spots in the Northeast. Surf enthusiasts love the pounding, deepwater breaks of the Atlantic coast. The premier surf spots are beaches at North Street, 8th Street, and Waverly.

New Smyrna Beach, Florida

20 minutes from Daytona SeaBreeze and Casa Del Mar

It should be no surprise that this town is a surf mecca. That’s because itNew Smyrna Beach is a great spot to hit on your Daytona Beach vacation, home of 23 shimmering miles of sensational sand. The authentic, hardcore vibe of the surfers is apparent in the amount of locals who appear to be surf gods when they expertly catch waves. The area is one of the most consistent breaks along Florida’s expansive coastline. The premier surf spot is New Smyrna Inlet, which is tops for hitting the best waves.

Folly Beach, South Carolina

20 minutes from The Lodge Alley Inn

Folly Beach, near historic Charleston, offers the best South Carolina surfing in the wildly popular “Washout” area. This is the place to come for the biggest waves, and experts agree that this is one of the top surf spots up and down the East coast. Hurricane Hugo, 1989’s devastating Category Five hurricane, was responsible for creating the Washout. Smooth winds now blow to the Folly River where there was once a block of houses. The after effects caused the waves to roll very well, creating a perfect scenario for the surfing fan. Folly Beach maintains a family-friendly feeling, ideal for your vacation at Lodge Alley Inn.

Atlantic City’s beaches are fabulous in part because they are FREE! Forget paying upwards of $10 to visit Seaside Heights or Belmar; AC beaches are more expansive and cleaner than most – paid for by Donald!

Also, who writes the articles on Colorful Places? They are nameless.

I’ve never been to Atlantic City, but always hear about the beaches from friends. I guess it’s worth checking out, especially since the summer is pretty much here. These articles are great…anyone have any other good surfing spots in Florida?

The panhandle is known to have good waves from time to time. Some spots off of the East coast also can have decent surf spots, especially during stormy summer times.

We have a staff of Copywriters who contribute different articles for different tastes. Also, thanks for the advice on the free beaches.
